Wood-fuelled heating systems that use wood pellets, chips or logs are known as Biomass systems. Typically a Biomass Boiler could save you up to £800* per year.
Biomass Systems work by burning wooden pellets, wood chips or logs to provide heating and hot water for domestic, commercial and industrial use and may be fitted with a back boiler to provide hot water heating too.
System can vary depending on your heating requirements and are easy to maintain and clean. A Biomass boiler system operates in the same way a conventional boiler does but with the exception of using wooden pellets or chips which are fed through the system and are automatically controlled by the boiler. As the fuel enters the boiler it is ignited and the hot gasses produced are passed through a heat exchanger. Heat is then transferred to the water used in your central heating system.
For homes that are not on a gas supply and for those of you who are looking to lower your oil or LPG bills, biomass may be the solution. Wood fuel in the form of logs, chips and pellets are significantly cheaper than other heating fuels such as oil, gas and coal and are a more sustainable source of fuel. Other fossil fuels are often subject to global price increase yet wood chips, pellets and logs can be sourced locally.
Wood fuel boiler systems can also qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), a Government initiative set up to provide financial support for installing renewable heating measures. For more information on The RHI Click Here
